05.01.08 - Richland County Conservation Commission granted $25,000 to the Harriet Barber House to provide funds for roofing, new siding, front porch repair, painting, and other structural work. The house will be used for community events and meeting.

11.30.07 - Patient’s Choice Award Banquet. The Patient’s Choice Award is an opportunity for our community to recognize Physicians/Dentists for their exemplary patient care and commitment toward community service.
This award ceremony is scheduled for Friday, November 30, 2007 at 7:00PM at the Brookland Baptist Banquet and Conference Center, West Columbia.
The categories to be awarded are: a practicing Physician/Dentist, Resident Physician/Dentist in training, and Legacy/Retired Physician/Dentist. Nominees will be judged based on the following five criteria; sensitivity to the needs of patients, accessibility and availability , communication skills, quality time with patients and involvement in community activities.
The Patient’s Choice Award is sponsored by Mount Nebo Baptist, Saint John Baptist, and Tri-City Visionaries in Lower Richland County. Proceeds from this event will be used to help construct a non-profit Holistic Wellness Center, which will provide health, social and spiritual related services for the rural communities of Lower Richland County.

10.07.07 - Congaree Swamp Fest -- Tour of Historic Sites
07.17.07 - Participants in the NEH Summer Institute: African American History as Public History from the University of South Carolina visited the Harriett Barber House.
05.28.07 - Hopkins Crossroad Community/Heritage Day Celebration. Government/Slave Cemetary. Over 150 people from the community attended the dedication of the old Government/Slave Cemetery. Bernice Scott and Norman Jackson represented County Council and brought greetings. A Heritage Day Celebration followed the ceremony at the Harriet Barber House. The Richmand County Conservation Commission sent videographers to capture the festivities and document the restoration work on the house. Visitors from Florida, Michigan, North Carolina and Minnesota joined the residents of Richland County for this celebration of heritage.
11.14.08 Tri-City Visionaries announces its Third Annual Patient’s Choice Awards Banquet scheduled for Friday, November 14, 2008, 7:00PM at the Brookland Baptist Church Banquet and Convention Center. This event is co-sponsored by the Saint John Baptist Church, Hopkins and the Mount Nebo Baptist Church, Eastover. The purpose of this event is to celebrate our community’s most accomplished physicians and dentists. more
